I was born in Davis Inlet in 1991 and lived there for a few years before moving to the United States - thank you for this film, so powerful to hear of your Meshkanu dedicated to remembering and resisting the continuing colonial influence.

I also saw of your canoe trip last year. I have worked with anti-dam organizing these past few years and if the trip is happening again would be interested in supporting the trip or joining.

Wonderful documentary about one Innu family...such treasuring of the land and animals and the First Nations ways...

I am an Innu woman living in Sheshatshui, Labrador. For many years I have committed my life to protecting the environment for my children and grandchildren. For over 13 years I have led a canoe trip and spring snowshoe walk for my people. Even when it’s hard, I go. Nothing stops me because “nutshimit” (the bush/country) is very important for our culture. Before I’m gone I want to see some change, I want to help my people and teach the children. I don’t want to see my children lose everything—I know we can’t go back to how things were, but I don’t want them to lose their Innu identity, culture and life.

How to get involved
